We
read that the Machame Route was beautiful. We have been told that it
was the most beautiful and the outstanding beauty of the landscape was
over our expectations. landscapes diversity, incredible scale of
colors, lush vegetation. We spent seven days in an incredible
richness from the jungle to lunar panoramas. |
Physically,
we've been training intensively for 3 months to allowed us to be in
good shape for the expedition. Excellent food, very cool team. It is
perfect to empty head and neurons as well ; highly recommanded

It is cold (-
30 ̊C),
windy, snowy, and yet when we switched off the head
torch heaven
is full of stars. It is 8:30pm and we start our climb to the
summit. Night of struggle, night of doubts, night's of
tireless
efforts, night of hope and despair, the trace permanently covered by
snow that wind table stealth under our feet as if it test our
resistance not not physical, (as the body is totally disconnected from
the mind), but our courage to override its whims and overcome our
weakness to natural say stop, we are going back. |
5:30 am.
May 16th.
Sunrise comes. The South summit is there and the summit is so close.
"Ah, you're finally here, the summit i have dreamed of for so
long, you are so close now. You're here, and so what ... My mind
is anesthetise after so much effort, the body is lying on the
snow. Hard to move. Pasang believes that going further, not above, is
too risky for me and he prefers to get back. "No problem Pasang, I am
following you ". 200 meters left, about 5 or 6 hours walk, but perhaps
200 meters between life and death ... We are back, happy as kids,
because beyond the strenous adventure, i tight strong
bonds between me and my 4 Sherpas, Pasang, Phuri,
Dindi and
Djambaa, who have given everything to get me so high. Without their
help, no Nadine on the south summit. And they each of them
bless
me with the traditional scarf laped around my neck. Very emotional. I
will never forget you my friends ...

We
finally contacted Reachsummit
an agency which works in close contact with a local tanzanian travel
agency. The first contacts are made and we rapidly realize it
corresponds to what we were excpecting: The fare is attractive
[and] the guide is english-speaking and well-skilled (climbed
Kilimanjaro 326 times).
