Nar Phu Valley trek is a fantastic journey in a wild and unexplored area located at the remote corner of the Annapurna range. Opened to trekkers in 2003, the Nar Phu valley remains completely untouched.

Ancient buddhists practices are still preserved and most of the Nepalese Tibetans inhabitants are yak herders and farmers. This trek also offers fantastic views of the Annapurna massif, Lamjung, Machapuchare, Manaslu Himal and Dhaulagiri peak. Visited by very few trekkers this exotic land offers a fantastic insight of the Tibetan culture amid dramatic mountain views and great alpine scenery.

Acclimatization & trekking program

Nar phu can be trekked from different ways. The Hard way is a 28 days trek in remote Annapurna region crossing passes above 5000m with magnificient views of the Annapurna range and the snow-dusted peaks.

We also propose the easy way with a 24 days itinerary to explore the Nar Phu deep valleys and remote villages. The trekking trails have been opened to tourist few years ago and the region is completely untouched.

The Tichilo Lake option climbs in alttitude with a pass to cross above 5000m of altitude before hiking down to Jomsom. Tichilo lake is the highest lake in Nepal with splendid panorama view. It is a nice alternative to the classic Annapurna circuit route that offers amazing backdrops.

The Thorong La itinerary is a more challenging option that combines the famous Annapurna trekking route and the unspoiled trails though Nar Phu villages.

The Nar Phu Valley trek is suitable for all trekkers in good physical condition. Most of the routes are off the beaten trails with little tourists and remote  villages. Each say includes about 5/6 hours walk with a light daypack. The difficulty remains in altitude as you cross passes above 5000m of altitude.

We recommend that you stay fit. Walking, running, cycling or/and swimming several times a week before your climb is recommended to be in an excellent physical condition. Build up your stamina and focus on cardio sessions to always be in good shape, even when walking in high altitude.

Cultural interest

The Nar Phu valley is one of the unknown treasure of Nepal. It is remote and still intact. Started from the classic Annapurna circuit trail, you rapidly head to medieval villages, ancient Tibetan culture sites, Buddhist Monasteries and Hindu temples and awe-inspiring mountain views.

Trekking seasons

The best seasons are from March to May and September to November. The trek takes you to exotic lands where villagers still live as farmers or herders.

Terrace fields walking through valleys covered with rhododendron and pine forests. In the mountain, you climb in clear weather and sunny days. As you climb turns to alpine climate, although days will remain warm.

You can also trek in early December but passes may be unaccessable due to snow and bad weather. Nights will be much colder with sudden weather changing conditions. In winter season, you should expect more clouds and snow falls. Always bring the right gear and be prepared for the unexpected.

Visa and permits

We arrange your trekking special permit for Naar and Phu valley. It is important you send us a copy of the identity page of your passeport upon booking to issue the documents. Bring 2 ID photos and your passport with you.

Trekking team

We provide a fantastic team of porters with sufficient number of yaks to carry the group loads.

The trekking guides are highly skilled professionals native from the mountain valleys of Nepal. They have years of knowledge and experience and believe in sharing their passion of adventure providing an incomparable cultural insight of the country.

Your Sherpa staff will make sure that each member has an enjoyable moment in full safety.

Meals

3 meals a day are provided on your trip. We take an extra care on your personal diet and the hygiene. The products are carefully selected to prepare tasty local and western courses to vary the menu on each day trek. Hygiene is particularly respected to avoid any illness related to food in order to remain in excellent condition during your trek.

Eco-friendly behaviour

REACH SUMMIT feels very concerned about environmental matters. Annapurna region also suffers from the impacts of climate change. Glaciers are rapidly melting, changing the face of the Himalayan region.

During the trek, although villages crossed are supplied with electricity and running water, those places remain remote and hard to access. Always make sure you bring you litter with you and do not through anything in nature. Some villages have difficulties to properly collect and bring down waste (always by road and mainly on foot). Always be respectful and do not leave things behind that could spoil or damage the environment.

Your guide will collect your rabbish every morning or organise a disposal point were you could leave your garbage. Do not leave any gear in nature and always bring back your belongings.
