why choosing this trek ?
The Ganesh Himal is a little trekked valley amid terraced hillsides. The trek is a cultural discovery through the Tamang villages and an ethical discovery of rich cultural traditions.
The trek is tailored for trekkers that wish to discover the traditional life style of the different ethnic groups of Nepal at the border with Tibet. You will have a fantastic insight of the Life style tradition, monasteries, buddhism practise and to explore traditional villages.
The visit of the Langtang valley offers an amazing exploration of a rich and diverse flora and fauna ecosystem. You cross lush forest, terraced hills, narrow valleys with spectacular views of the Himalayan range with 7000m peaks in the distance.
Ganesh Himal and Langtang combined offer an unforgettable panoarama of hundreds of 6000m snow capped peaks and a superb exploration of the 300 species of birds and 500 variety of plants.
Ethnical and cultural discovery
The Tamangs are one of the several ethnic and oldest groups that inhabit the entire mountainous region of Nepal at the border with Tibet. The word Tamang may be derived from the Tibetan words "ta" and "mang", the horse warriors. The Tamang people follow Tibetan Buddhism mixed with elements of the pre-Buddhist Bön and the Tambaist religion with animist and hinduist practises. The shaman has the power to expel evil spirits and demons in fascinating ceremonies.
They are very good leaders with a strong enthusiasm to share their culture.
Meals
3 meals a day are provided during your trek. We take an extra care on your personal diet and the hygiene. The products are carefully selected to prepare tasty local and western courses to vary the menu on each day trek. Hygiene is particularly respected to avoid any illness related to food in order to remain in excellent condition during your trek.
Local Food I recommend to taste :
- Momos : dumplings filled with either meat or vegetables and spices.
- Dal Bhat : lentil soup (dal) with rice (bhat). Add a curried veggies dish to spice the all.
- Swiss rosti or Aloo cake : potato pancake mixed with veg, spice and herbs. Ideal for breakfast !
- Yak Cheese : snacks with biscuits or in the soup
This Nepali food is safe to order if you want to have a taste of the local dishes.
Equipment recommended
All trekkers have to bring their own personal gear. Neverthless, you could make some shopping in the streets of Kathmandu. You will find various clothes, backpacks, hiking shoes and other small equipment in the local shops. Be aware that most of sleeping bags, jackets and rucksacks are locally manufactured in Thamel and counterfeit.
Please, take sturdy trekking shoes and a windproof/waterproof jacquet with a hood in case of rain showers. Don't forget to break your boots in.
Nepal team
Our local guides are native from the mountain regions of Nepal. They are very experienced, well-trained and have long-time experience on the trails of Nepal. They assist you in friendly sharing moments and also share their innermost knowledge of the region, the traditions and the culture. They are assisted by a strong team of outgoing and experienced cook, assistant guide, porters, . Along the way, mules and porters carry most of the gear and bags to keep you in good shape during the trek.
What about tipping ?
In Nepal tipping guide and porters is expected and common although it is not compulsory. If you feel your guide or sherpa has done a good job, please allow approximately USD 20$ to 50$ per pers to be divided equally between the crew staff. Living standard are very low, then if you feel that the service is good, we recommend leaving a tip.
Eco-friendly Behaviour
The Ganesh Himal region is a splendid region close to the Tibet border and not very well known by trekkers. The ecosystem is still unspoiled in some areas and people are still leaving in a very traditional way. Some places remain remote and hard to access.
Always make sure you bring you litter with you and do not through anything in nature. Your guide will collect your rabbish every morning or organise a disposal point were you could leave your garbage. Some villages have difficulties to properly collect and bring down waste (always by road and mainly on foot). Always be respectful and do not leave things behind that could spoil or damage the environment.
