Trekking Route
This is the longest trek in Far East Nepal. The route is remote, unspoiled and offers one of the most majestics views of the surrounding peaks. You cross cardamom farming villages in lowest altitude, crossing virgin land rich in flora and fauna with splendid panramic views of the Yalung glacier as you trek up in higher altitude.
You fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar and Taplejung and start your trek with reasonnable altitude gain to ajust your body to altitude. The trail leads you to Rhododendron forests, deep lush valleys at the feet of some of the highest mountains of the world. It is a land of contrast. A trek far from the classic trails especially designed for those who love the wild.
You trek to Base Camp South and North and make the circuit of Kanchenjunga hiking along sharp rocky faces covered by snow. You will feel very small and perhaps humble when facing those massive slopes raising to the deep blue sky. Kanchenjunga is an amazing moment in a virgin land.
Experience required and Acclimatization
This Kachenjunga Base Camp Trek is suitable for all very fit trekkers who can walk 5/7 hours a day with a light daypack. You must be in excellent physical condition as some days are quite long and the hike is more arduous with the altitude. The trail is a good track, but occasionally it will be rough, bumpy and rocky with high altitude passes to cross. Kachanjunga Base Camp Trek is a non-technical trek but impose long walking hours to villages up to alt. 5000 m and trekking parts along steep slopes on mountain ridges.
Your itinerary is designed to provide a rest day at Kanchenjunga South and North Base Camp to fully get acclimatized. From there, you get a clear view of Yalung Glacier on the South wall of Kanchenjunga. At Kanchenjunga North, you have an optional ascent to Pangpema Peak (alt. 5,800m) fto enjoy a memorable panoramic view.
Prepare yourself physically and mentally as the trek can be strenuous in altitude and while crossing high passes. Altitude has to be considered seriously as you can suffer from AMS - Acute Mountain Sickness. We will require a medical certificate that allows you to take part of the trek.
