7 days of altitude trek to fully benefit from an excellent acclimatization and to put all the chances on your side for the top. The Machame way is one of most beautiful route for its diversity of the ecosystems crossed. Throughout your altitude trek you will be filled with wonder by an extraordinary wet forest, a landscape of heathers, a steppe where develop giant Groundsel (Senecio) and Lobelia, desert of rocks and ends with a splendid sight of Africa in the middle of the altitude glaciers.
Itinerary
- Day 01 : Kilimanjaro Airport - Tanzania
Welcome at Kilimanjaro Airport. Transfer to your accommodation at your hotel for a friendly evening briefing about the itinerary with your guide. Dinner and Overnight at your Hotel.
- Day 2 : Machame Gate
Transfer to Machame Gate (alt. 1800m). You slowly rise above the surrounding plains to get into the mountains where you can experience some of Africa's most stunning views. 6-8 hours walk through thick mountain forest to Machame Hut (alt.3000m). Dinner & Overnight at Machame Hut Camp.
- Day 3 : Shira Plateau
After breakfast, 4-6 hours trekking through the moor land , Reach Shira Plateau in the afternoon where the camp is set above the plains. Enjoy superb views of Mount Meru in the distance. Dinner & overnight at Shira Plateau Camp (alt. 3840m).
- Day 4 : Lava Tower
Wake up at the crack of dawn for an early breakfast followed by a hike through the land. The path rises up gradually up to Lava tower at 4,600m altitude and drops down to the Barranco Valley. Enjoy a tasty lunch at Lava Tower and arrive in early afternoon at Barranco to acclimatize yourself. Have some sleep in your tent and take some nice pictures of the lush valley. Dinner & overnight at Barranco Hut (alt. 3950m).
- Day 5 : Barranco Valley to Karanga Valley
Start with a delicious breakfast under the morning sun. Get your gear sorted and climb the Barranco wall. The path winds along the volcanic crags. At the top of the cliff, the panorama is jaw-dropping. On clear days you will have stunning views of Mt. Meru and the Kibo. Trek South to Karanga Valley. Dinner & overnight at Karanga Valley Camp (alt. 4132m).
- Day 6/7 : Barufu Hut (alt. 4600m) to Uhuru Peak (alt. 5895m)
Enjoy your 4000m altitude breakfast at the feet of the Kibo glaciers. Pack your gear and walk across alpine desert and moraine fields. Reach Barafu Camp after 3-4hrs walk (alt. 4600m) for an amazing view of the Mawenzi peaks in late afternoon. Get some good rest and try to get some sleep to improve acclimatization. Wake up at 12:30am for your final ascent to Stella Point.
This section is the steepest part of your ascent to reach the rim of the crater. It is a 6-7 hours hike to Stella Point (alt. 5735m). You arrive at sunrise. From Stella Point it is a 1 hour walk to the summit at Uhuru Peak (5895m). Enjoy an amasing tour into the crater of the volcano. Descend to Millennium Camp (alt. 3500m). Dinner & overnight at Millennium Camp.
- Day 8 : Mweka Gate
After breakfast, walk to Mweka gate where you arrive in early afternoon. Transfer to your hotel. Evening dinner in Moshi to celebrate the success of the climb. Overnight stay at your hotel.
- Day 9 : International departure
Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport.
