This untouched trekking route offers spectacular mountains views and a genuine adventure with spectacular beauty and cultural diversity. Trekking along the Tibetan border, the circuit gets into the Gurka region and crosses ancient Tibetan traders traveling routes. The inhabitants are Tibetan, Gurung, Magar, Chhetri and Tamang this gives one of the most exciting cultural discoveries. Crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5100m is a challenging experience but offers majestic views of altitude peaks of the Himalayan ranges and glacier lakes.

Trekking Route

The Manaslu region opened to trekkers in the early 1990's whereas climbing expeditions were allowed in the area during the climbing season. This is a restricted area that requires a special trekking permit per person and per week, a liaison officer and a minimum group size.

The Manaslu Circuit trek starts from Gorkha and offers one of the best ways to explore the diverse cultures and lifestyles of mixed Tibetan, Gurkha & Gurung people. The trek is culturally fascinating and gives you the opportunity to meet different communities with their own unique way of life.

Awe-inspiring views of the Himalayan range including Mt.Manaslu, Mt.Dhaulagiri and Annapurna with Himalayan summits.

Is Manaslu BC trekking a challenging trip ?

The Manaslu Trek is a very challenging trek in a remote region. The route climbs to 5,000m altitude in this restricted area. You cross magnificent wooded valleys, spectacular gorges and a high altitude pass.

The Larka La is a non-technical pass but the trek is a demanding hike through isolated areas with no rescue facilities. This trail can be rough and steep; you should be able to walk during long hours carrying your daypack. Some of the days will be quite long, and the walking would feel more arduous with altitude.

The trail is a good trek but rough, bumpy and steep with rocky sections in high altitude pass. With altitude and the cold, you may be more sensitive to AMS when crossing Larkya Glaciers. Walking, running, cycling or/and swimming several times a week before your trek is recommended to be in excellent physical and mental condition. Altitude has to be considered as you can suffer from AMS. We will require a medical certificate that will allow you to take part of the trek.

Your guide could also slightly vary itinerary depending on your ability to acclimatize properly. Be prepared for itinerary changes in case of bad weather or poorly maintained trails.

Acclimatization program & AMS

Acute mountain sickness can affect trekkers no matter what age or gender from 2,500m altitude upwards. Thus, the Manaslu BC trek is designed in the main to provide the best acclimatization possible. The trail steadily ascends upwards to gain progressive altitude crossing the River trail, deep gorges and lush forests.

You gradually gain altitude to reach Syala village and then Sama village at same altitude to finally enjoy an extra rest day surrounded by stunning mountain views. The body will have enough time to adjust to altitude and the lack of oxygen before the Larkya La Pass crossing at 5,213m altitude.

Team

The guides are highly skilled professionals and most of them are either Gurung or Sherpa people native from the Manaslu region. They have an unrivaled knowledge of the local customs, the culture and the fauna of the region. They have years of knowledge and experience and believe in sharing their passion of adventure providing an incomparable cultural insight of the country.

From guides to cooks or porters, the staff are a hard working team with strong enthusiasm to making your trip an unforgettable adventure. Along the way, yaks carry most of the gear to keep you in good shape during the trek.

Campsite accommodation trek

The trek leads into untouched Himalayan regions. It requires heavy logistics as all supplies have to be carried by porters and Yaks. The trek is tented / tea-house accommodation. We provide all camping gear and tents (dining, toilets, and showers) including comfortable mattresses.

Meals

3 meals a day are provided during your trek. Extra care is taken on your personal diet and hygiene. The food is carefully selected to prepare tasty local and western courses to vary the menu on each day trek, with Nepali, Tibetan and Continental meals

Hygiene is particularly important to avoid any illness related to food and in order to remain in excellent condition during your trek.

Insurance

Your insurance policy should mention that trekking activities are involved and it should be designed specifically with the needs of adventure and outdoors travel over alt. 4,000m. Your travel insurance policy should also include covering for medical expenses, helicopter rescue and repatriation.

Eco-friendly behaviour

Reach Summit feels very concerned about environmental impact of human activities in pristine regions.

Please keep in mind that you are not allowed to pollute or leave your garbage in this fragile ecosystem. Your guide will collect your rubbish every morning to be brought back at the end of the trip. Ask your guide to pick up your small plastic bags, bottles or litter. Use the toilet tent facilities provided, do not leave toilet-paper behind you and always behave as a responsible trekker.
