Eco-friendly behaviour
We feel very concerned about preservation of Maasai culture and wildlife reserves. Preserving traditions and lifestyle is the key point of that trek. We help you to get a glance of one of the most ancient nomadic tribe that has to face the growing influence of modern world. Severe droughts, lake of water, shortage of herds urge the Maasai to find alternatives to their semi-nomadic way of life. Please keep in mind that you are not allowed to pollute or leave your garbage in the reserve. Water will be provided sufficiently, nevertheless it will be used wisely to help saving this natural ressource.
We use chemical toilets to reduce the impact of pollution in villages during the trek. Your guide will collect your rabbish every morning to be brought back at the end of the trip. Ask your guide to pick up your small plastic bags, bottles or litter. You should also get prepared to share a different life-style and consider some traditions that might sometimes appear spectacular.
Maasais have a strong art heritage and to preserve cultural heritage and help local developpment, you can buy traditional weapons, jewelleries and crafts designed by the local people in villages crossed.
Taking pictures
Maasai people are extremely friendly and would be happy you picture them. However don't forget to ask permission when necessary and do not get too close to people when taking images. In villages visited, you can take as many pictures as you like and you will not have to pay for taking shoots. If you are asked for money, ask your guide for advice.
It is highly recommended not to picture Maasais while trekking out of villages included in your itinerary as you will automatically be asked for money. Please do not give money without the advice of your guide and behave respectfully at all times.
