Supplemental oxygen systems are commonplace on most of the 8000m+ peaks. Most climbers use extra oxygen when climbing Cho Oyu or Everest. It reduces the impact of the altitude by artificially lowering the true altitude, making you warmer and pulling off the first symptoms of AMS.
The POISK Oxygen cylinders are manufactured in Russia and have been used for years by climbers on Everest and 8000m+ peaks. The system includes oxygen tanks that have to be carried all the way through, a regulator that regulates the Oxygen flow and a mask that climbers adjust on their face. We use the Poisk System on Kilimanjaro for medical purposes.
This system was designed and has been built specifically for climbing Everest using aerospace standards employed with the RAF. This is the only system built specifically for climbing Everest; it was designed by an aero systems engineer who has climbed Everest in the process of testing this equipment.

REACH SUMMIT® also provides medical oxygen at Base Camp in case of emergency. When in Kathmandu, you could test the oxygen system we provide and get more familiar with it. You could also try several masks to find the one that suits you best. It is important you get the right size that can be adjusted with your goggles. If the mask is too large, it won't stay in place and will become uncomfortable to use. It will also reduce considerably, your vision and an inability to see your feet ... but with TopOut, the mask fits perfectly!
As we feel concerned about the environmental impact on the mountain, we do our best to bring back all Oxygen cylinders used during the expedition
