Combining the Marka Valley Trek with the Stok Kangri ascent allow to gain altitude steadily and to acclimatise to the low oxygen conditions before reaching the summit . Although very safe and technically straightforward, the climb on Stok Kangri remains challenging with crossing high passes, boulder terrains and steep snow slopes. The climb of Stok Kangri provides stunning views over the Ladakh region, the Karakoram valleys and the the Himalayan range across Tibet.

Trekking route
Stok Kangri is a delightful trekking peak that lies in the Ladakh area in the northern part of india. The capital city Leh is the starting point of your trek towards the fascinating Markha valley. The long trek is designed to help your body to ajust to altitude and maximize your acclimatization before the summit bid. You trek in unspoiled Indian himalayan region through arid landscape and remote valleys. From Base Camp you wake up in early morning to start your climb for an awe-inspiring sunrise at the summit. From the top you enjoy the magnificient view over Indus Valley, Karakoram Range and Pakistan mountains.
Cultural interest
The trek to Stok Kangri is a fantastic opportunity to visit numerous monasteries and picturesque Ladakh villages on little-used routes. Leh, the capital city and administrative capital of the Ladakh district offers ancient monastries, colorful markets, abandonned royal palace and interesting Hindu, Buddhist and Islam encounters. The gompas (monasteries) lie along the ancient trading routes traversing Tibet and Ladakh. The routes across Ladakh region also brings magnificent views over Zanskar Mountains and across the Karakoram snow capped peaks with fantastic Tibet panorama in the distance.
Climbing techniques
Stok Kangri is excellent introduction to hight altitude mountain trek for very fit trekkers. The climb
does not require climbing experience but remain a challenging adventure. Crossing high passes, exposed narrow paths and climbing steep sections make the trek even more challenging. Depending on the weather conditions, you should be familiar with the use of ice axe and crampons but may not be needed to scramble over scree and rocks.
The team
1 - Guide
Our Sherpa team is well-trained to assist you during the trek and the climb. They are responsible for the carrying of the group loads, install camps each day and at Base camp before the ascent. They assure a high-quality leadership throughout your trek. They know the mountain, are well experienced to climb in altitude and willing to share the fascinating cultural diversity of the region. Your Sherpa team will also make sure that each member has suitable knowledge to climb, is self-sufficient and able to climb towards the upper camps. They will also insure that you climb and come back in full safety.
2 - Cook
Your cook and kitchen staff are trained and able to prepare tasty and balanced meals in trekking kitchens. They are very concerned about hygiene, clients requirements about food and do their best to always provide fresh food during to advoid dry food. You will have to inform us about any allergy or diatery. Soup, vegetable, chicken, french fries, rice or pasta are provided for lunch and dinner and served with tea or coffee. Both continental and local meals are served to enjoy proper lunches and dinners everyday and experience Nepali, Sherpa, Tibetan, Indian and Continental menus.
Experience required and Health condition
Trekking in Ladakh region require 6 - 8 hours of walking each day with a light backpack. Some of the days are quite long and the walking is more arduous with the altitude. The trail is a good track, but as you get higher it will be rough, bumpy and rocky with high altitude passes to cross. To the summit to Stok Kangri you will walk on mix boulder trails and steep snow slopes that require a good stamina and an excellent health condition. Prepare yourself physically especially as the walk can be strenuous in altitude and while crossing the passes. Altitude has to be considered as you can suffer from AMS. We will require a medical certificate that allows you to take part of the trek.
